Diabetic Foot Care

Diabetes can reduce the blood supply to your feet, it is relatively common for people with diabetes to loose feeling in the foot known as peripheral neuropathy. This can mean foot injuries don't heal well and you may NOT notice if your foot is sore or injured.

Without the right treatment, people with diabetes can develop foot infections ulcers and other serious complications.

Therefore it is key to ensure you have regular feet check ups.

Corns  Calluses & Hard Skin

Hard skin or callus builds up over areas of high pressure exposed to repeated friction. this can become very uncomfortable for your feet.

includes soaking the feet before removal of the hard skin/callus/corn using skilled scalpel work and advice to improve and maintain the condition of your feet and to help prevent the problem reoccurring.

Foot Massage

Regular foot & leg massage is helpful and vital in dealing with diabetic neuropathy, vascular conditions & numerous other conditions,  it improves circulation in your legs & all over your body which helps to decrease the inflammation. While having a foot massage, our brain releases endorphin hormones that are helpful in increasing your blood insulin levels, which in turn provides nutrients and oxygen to your feet & muscles, warming your feet to. it dilates your blood vessel cells allowing more blood to reach them.  

Treatment

Warm foot soak (if appropriate) massage of foot and leg with Sweet orange essential oil amazing for circulation. finished with a highly moisturising cream softening lotion

Foot Massage

Ingrown/Ingrowing Toenails

Ingrown toenails, where the edge of your nail is curved and agitates the tissues surrounding the nail & can cause inflammation and redness alongside discomfort/pain, 

 

your affecting nail induces an inflammatory response in the surrounding skin as it tries to expel the the nail edge.

 

Treatment

 assessment of your problematic nail/s a warm foot soak, cuticle removal, the side walls of your nail/s are cleared of debriment and cleaned, nails trimmed & a simple removal of the nail spike or cutting back of the curved edge. after your foot is fully moisturised with high intense moisture cream.

Fungal/Infected/Thickened Toenails 

Onychomycosis is a nail infection commonly as we get older, but occurs in all of us & may cause local discomfort, it can impact our quality of life in where other wise we are healthy,

as we get older we become more prone to this because of existing medical conditions you may have. your nail may look thickened, crumbly & discoloured (often a green-yellow sometimes black colour).

 

Treatment

requires assessment of your nail/s, a warm foot soak and treatment depends on condition of nail/s. I can discuss this with you or family as appropriate
